Abstract

Fundamental technical skills are an important aspect of badminton athlete development; however, observations indicated that some athletes still demonstrated low to moderate levels of fundamental technical skills. This study aimed to analyze the effects of Direct Spotting Toward and Self Check Style on fundamental badminton skills and compare the improvement produced by the two methods. A quantitative approach with a two-group pre-test–post-test design was employed. The participants were 32 badminton athletes from Rokan Hulu Regency, who were assigned through ranking and matching into Direct Spotting Toward and Self Check Style groups. The interventions were conducted for 16 sessions, three times per week. Fundamental badminton skills were assessed using a badminton skill test and analyzed using normality, homogeneity, and t-tests. The results indicated that both methods influenced fundamental badminton skills. The mean improvement was 2.56 for the Direct Spotting Toward group and 2.63 for the Self Check Style group. Thus, both methods can be applied to fundamental badminton skill training, with Self Check Style showing a higher mean improvement than Direct Spotting Toward.
